A boutique hotel inspired by the Farms in Suffolk, England at Jim’s Farm Villa

Located just 3 kilometers inward from the A9 road in the town of Matale, Jim’s Farm Villa offers guests a unique experience of luxury blended with an organic farm stay in the tranquility of their 50 acre organic farm. Founded on the principles of relaxation to it’s guest’s mind and body, the boutique hotel was inspired by the scenic farms in Suffolk England - a little piece of English heaven in Sri Lanka.

The boutique hotel offers 3 villas, with a total of 14 rooms and since the hotel is located on such a vast plot of land, the hotel also grows its own fruits and vegetables and rears its own herd of cows - where the hotel’s dairy and meals are sourced from its own garden whilst other product which aren’t grown in-house is sourced from local neighborhood farmers

Apart from the attractions of the hotel’s organic garden that supplies most of the fruit and vegetables to the kitchen as well as the cattle that are bred in-house, the 50 acre land is set amidst wooded hills and next to scenic paddy fields. The surrounding location makes the hotel a paradise for ornithologists as there has been a record of over 102 species of birds in this plot of land.

An array of experiences and more than just accommodation at Kevan’s Casa

Located just 30 minutes away from the ancient Veddah village of Dambana; home to the indigenous tribe of Sri Lanka, Kevan’s Casa offers accommodation that is a mix of modern luxury blended with local and unique experiences for those who dare. Kevan’s Casa offers 16 rooms all equipped with modern amenities for an enjoyable and memorable stay. Memorable because the hotel offers guests the opportunity to enjoy breakfast on the banks of the lake, take part in the task of milking cows in a village house and even enjoy a catamaran ride around the infamous Sorabora Lake at sunrise.

The Rathkinda Reservoir is one of the best locations to watch elephants as they swim in the lake, and this can be enjoyed from April to August every year. The best part? The reservoir is located just 30 minutes away from the hotel, and should guests like to partake in this activity, it can certainly be arranged. When you stay at Kevan’s Casa, you can also take part in many other local experiences including hikes to nearby waterfalls and to the Alien Rock and fishing in Sorabora Lake.

Lynford Bungalow; Experience a life style of Colonial Tea Planters

Nestled in Bogawantalawa just one and half hours drive from Adam’s Peak, the four roomed Lynford Bungalow counts a 140 year history since its original grandeur “Lynford”,  a British Tea Planter. The British Planters in the colonial era prided themselves of the traditions they upheld, and at Lynford Bungalow, the management makes sure their guests are taken back in time to give an experience of the bygone era; of a Planter’s life style, starting at the crack of dawn to visit tea field, enjoy High Tea on the lawn, to enjoy a game of croquet or badminton or even cricket on the lawn, some snooker in the games room and to relax by the hearth in the evening. The natural pool in the Bungalow compound is a real treat  after a hike around the tea plantations in the area with a good view of the local tea workers community. The butler “Appu”, in the Planters terminology, allows the guests to have a pleasant experience and an exclusive service during their stay at Lynford Bungalow.

Sinharaja Adventure Resort: Experience undisturbed bio-diversity

Even though the Sinharaja forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to a plethora of wildlife, many of them endemic, the Sri Lankan Crested Drongo takes the “Lifetime Award for Attention Seeker Extraordinaire” since it is extraordinarily adept at imitating other bird calls! The Drongo will be the first one to greet you at dawn and the last to say goodnight, but spend enough time here and you will soon learn to identify the imposter from the real deal! Take your time and go on undisturbed rambles along the numerous Nature, Bird Watching or Trekking Trails, and watch the denizens of this virgin rainforest as they go about their daily routines. If you fancy, you could also mount an expedition to a local village and experience the curiosities of village life. Whether you choose to stay in one of the comfortable rooms offered by Sinharaja Adventure Resort or go full-on wild mode and hole up in a tent, Sinharaja Forest will be one of the most tranquil and peaceful stays that you will ever experience.

Feedback

Great Experience ..!! It's very hard to choose a favorite part.

We enjoyed all of it. The itinerary was very well planned with a lot of activities plus a little bit of downtime as well. All the hotels have been lovely and had a lot of character. The chauffeur guide was excellent, knowledgeable and accommodating especially with our regular requests to find somewhere to stop for short eats.

We would definitely recommend Sri Lanka as a destination for friends and family to visit.

Our policy in discouraging Animal Cruelty, Tourist Traps and Staged Tourist Shows

Animals Are Friends Too: Discouraging Animal Cruelty, Tourist Traps and Staged Tourist Shows

We at ExJ stay away from tourism experiences that are staged and involve animal cruelty and shopping traps that are contrived to exploit and deceive clients.

Even though some of the popular ‘attractions’ are not included in our programmes due to the above reasons, we have no objections in our clients making their own arrangements with our Drivers to visit these places.

Why we do not promote following attractions

Turtle Hatcheries

As this concept has serious negative aspects in terms of conservation, we do not encourage our visitors to patronize the turtle hatcheries, as not all of them are really turtle-friendly. We instead encourage them to observe turtles in their natural habitats.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

When we became aware that the animal welfare standards there were questionable, we stopped encouraging our clients to visit the orphanage. We are pleased to observe that the Born Free Foundation has now adopted similar measures.

Elephant back rides – Habarana

There’s uncertainty surrounding the attitude of this place towards animal welfare. There may be a few ethical operators, but in general, we are not in agreement with how the place is run. We all would love a photo of us riding an elephant, but is a lifetime of pain caused to these magnificent mammals really worth a few fleeting likes on social media?

Traditional Village Tour with a Canoe Trip and Bullock-Carts – Habarana

This is a tourist trap where a lot of the trip is ‘staged’ for commercial purposes. Such fake touristic experiences will not give our visitors an idea of what life in the country is really like, so join us as we show you the real side of Sri Lanka. And at the end of every vacation, always ask yourself, “Did you feel that your holiday was ethical, eco-friendly, and reduced environmental impacts?”
