Get to know Kaffir culture with Sherine
Residing in Sirambiyadi in the Puttalam area, Sherine is a one-of-kind find. Representing the Kaffirs, a race decended from 16th century Portuguese traders and their African slaves, Sherine specialises in preserving and exhibiting the orally recorded history of her people. Throughout the ages though, Kaffir culture, a wonderful contributor to the arts and culture of Sri Lanka, has become diluted due to the challenges represented by only having an oral record. Thus, the efforts of Sherine to preserve and promote her culture, songs and dance are highly commendable. If you would like to meet this lively personality, do let us know.
